ENG 154 CHAIN POEM

Poets:

Alie Cas
Dana Cabalza
EJ Azares
Farl Bermeo
Mat Gonzales
Sasha Liuag
Yans Dela Torre
Ysa Mangulabnan

Procedure:

1) During the first synchronous session, each writer in the class (Science and Technology in Literature) turned in two 10-syllable lines.

2) In the asynchronous classroom, Ysa, Farl, and Yans proposed three arrangements of the lines. We worked on the first submission along with the title Ysa gave it: “She’s Leaving Home”.

3) During the next synchronous session, we played Mad Libs (instructions: take a source text and put blanks in place of some words, noting the part of speech under each blank, then fill in the blanks without looking at the source text). Replacements for nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc. introduced a reformation/deformation of the lines. For example, “She’s Leaving Home” transformed into “She’s Cooking Prison” after EJ threw in a new verb and place word.

4) In the asynchronous classroom, eight of eleven participating writers gave consent to present the poem for Lit Month. Words from the silent poets were removed from “She’s Leaving Home” and its mad-libbed clone. Punctuation and minor edits put into place for “She’s Cooking Prison”.

5) Eight poets mean 50% +1 in a class of fourteen. We dismissed for the Reading/Wellness Break.
